What makes great bluegrass music? Join us as we find out with bluegrass and banjo icon Ricky Skaggs and his group Kentucky Thunder. An influential force in today’s country music, Ricky Skaggs has been a key figure in the New Traditionalist movement since 1979 and has proved that old time music can fit right in with the modern world of Nashville. His traditional-sounding songs such as “Heartbroke,” “Highway 40 Blues,” “Honey (Open That Door),” “Cajun Moon,” “Crying My Heart Out Over You” among others have all become hits and all have featured a traditional, unadorned arrangement - and in each of these numbers he has employed his bluegrass roots to great advantage. And as if these achievements weren’t enough, he has proven himself to be a first-rate mandolin and fiddle player since he was five years old. The recipient of 15 Grammy Awards as well as numerous Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music honours, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018 and into the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. His new music with wife Sharon White of Whitehouse, Tennessee, known as Hearts Like Ours, had their latest album release in 2014.
